THE BRIEF: The corporate law HQ of BSA needed to escape the sterotype of dark, cold spaces with rows of desks and no natural light. They wanted to create a welcoming networking space for clients as a big part of their business model relies on that but their old office set up is not fit for that purpose. Furthermore they needed to add innovation to retain top talent. CREATIVITY/THE IDEA: FLOW & ORDER The play of space. An open flow space for networking. DNAWORKSHOP crafted a fresh approach to law firm perception. The design breaks the stereotype that a law firm space should be rigid, closed and where everything has to happen behind closed doors. A play on transparency, versatility of space and a natural aesthetic to create an open space where all parts are connected and visible to each other, offering endless networking possibilities. At the same time, each section can have its privacy when required with a simple fold of uniquely designed revolving and collapsible glass frames. Utilising flexible louvre partitions, provides the flexibility required whilst retaining a modern and welcoming feel with the use of natural elements throughout the space. INNOVATION AND / OR ADAPTIVE RE-USE: The design brings a fresh approach to law firms and how to do business in it, by relying on the ideas of transparency and versatility of space. A simple fold of uniquely designed revolving and collapsible glass frames can help the space transition from private daily use sections ie: conference & meeting rooms, to social networking open space whenever required. -The revolving wood louvers allow for open-closed space play. -Facing the entrance and hidden behind rotating louvers, visitors can find the library where they can have informal meetings. -The modular rhythmic glass panels rotate and fold, creating a fully open space Flow. They ensure versatility, opening the space when BSA hosts networking events or when combining the two conference rooms. -The modular conference tables permit different formation possibilities, they can even collapse depending on the requirement. During tech-reliant events, big screen TVs connect the conference rooms to online client meetings and to regional/international offices. FUNCTIONALITY: Directly from entrance, the visitor gets a peak of the library and hospitality bar through the wood louvers from behind the reception. Surrounded by the different types and sizes of meeting rooms. These 2 elements play a dynamic role in the office and are at the heart of the action. Other spaces can connect or disconnect from them through a simple fold of the revolving and collapsible glass panels. The spaces can easily transition from private daily use ie: conference & meeting rooms, to an open area suitable for social networking around the hospitality bar. Each meeting room is also connected to smart screens and devices, keeping in mind the hybrid model that emerged during the Pandemic and the increase need of working remotely and being connected to virtual channels. SUSTAINIBILITY: The new office layout withstands the test of time since it is adaptive and versatile by design. Through revolving glass panels, modular conference tables and furniture, the space can be repurposed according to the need. Allowing for different size meeting spaces that range from formal to informal. This was achieved using a palette of natural materials and colors: Rough concrete floor slabs, refined semi solid herringbone, oak parquet, marble reception set against rotating natural vertical wood planks, white walls and transparent glass that allow sunlight to reach all areas, which adds to the openness and freshness of the space. The open space and the use of transparency through glass material, not only allows the flow in the space on a visual sense but also saves drastically on electricity as all the rooms benefit from natural light that pours in from the main office windows throughout the day. Saving on energy was also something that was part on the planning and structure set up by installing LED light sources with dimmers that permits control of electric consumption. Natural plants are part of the space while an Olive tree acts as a hero central piece. INCLUSIVITY: The office is set up in a prestigious location that is easy access to people with determination and has an inclusive and tolerant attitude that goes in line with the nation’s values that promote tolerance, giving back, respecting others and treating every individual equally. The office design is on one floor, with a flow that allows easy and friendly circulation. All spaces can connect with a simple unfold of glass panels and therefore creating more connections between employees and their client. Networking and connection are at the heart of the design.
