Bryü is a craft beer brewery and restaurant located in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. The site faces Kiryu Tenmangu Shrine which is a good place to see cherry blossoms in spring. We created large openings along the street so that the customers can enjoy the view and the brewery can be seen from outside.

A tap bar is attached to the brewery on the first floor. The area of the brewhouse and backyard are kept to a minimum in order to provide as much seating space as possible for the tap bar. The volume of the brewhouse was determined by the minimum dimensions needed to accommodate brewing tanks and other equipment, which protrudes into the seating area. We separated the volume from the original steel ceiling to give a sense of depth and openness to the space.

Since the restaurant on the second floor is a more relaxed space where customers stay longer than the tap bar on the first floor, we used different finishes and colors to create a contrast. The legs of the tables are fixed to the tabletops with draw latches. By changing the length of the legs, the tables can be used in various ways from high tables to benches.
