Boston Scientific’s new Institute for Advancing Science (IAS) in Madrid is a state-of-the-art facility that exemplifies creativity, innovation, functionality, and sustainability. Designed to foster collaboration, immersive learning, and client engagement, the IAS suite integrates seamlessly with the existing agile workspace in the same building, providing a cutting-edge environment for training healthcare professionals on Boston Scientific’s advanced products.

Creativity is central to the suite’s design, blending digital and physical elements to deliver an engaging and inspiring experience. Visitors are greeted by an interactive display featuring medical devices and holograms of anatomical structures, while a bespoke ceiling installation of over 500 LED lights mimics the Milky Way, creating a dynamic and visually captivating feature.

Innovation drives the suite’s adaptability and technological integration. Flexible lab spaces with movable partitions and versatile furniture enable seamless reconfiguration to support a variety of training scenarios, from small workshops to large-scale events. The immersive auditorium, featuring a surrounding LED digital wall and advanced acoustic treatments, provides an unparalleled visual and auditory experience, while private rooms with SmartGlass doors offer the flexibility needed for live surgery simulations and confidential consultations.

Functionality is embedded throughout the design. The layout facilitates smooth transitions between spaces, catering to the diverse needs of trainees, doctors, and clients. Acoustic materials and timber finishes ensure superior sound quality and create a warm, welcoming atmosphere, while lighting based on the WELL Light concept promotes wellbeing and optimised learning conditions.

Sustainability is integral to the project, with the IAS achieving LEED Platinum certification and adhering to the WELL Building Standard. By using energy-efficient lighting, high-performance materials, and sustainable construction practices, the suite reflects Boston Scientific’s commitment to environmental responsibility and long-term value.

This pioneering facility sets a global benchmark for innovative, functional, and sustainable healthcare training environments, advancing professional development and client engagement while supporting Boston Scientific’s mission.
