“Where the Legend Meets Innovation” Boon Rawd Brewery is a well-know Thailand’s oldest and largest beer and beverage producers. The business remains under the management of the founder’s descendants. As the business expand, together with today’s changing work pattern in effect of digitalization, the Boon Rawd Brewery decided to move into new premise with an aim to create a smart workplace. While new workplace is portrayed to be modern and more cooperative, the design team did not want to diminish the importance of the company’s history. The designer believes that the corporate culture is derived from understanding it’s root, and it will then reflect to the vision, mission and value. “Where Legend Meets Innovation” is the phrase describing a main design concept of the Boon Rawd Brewery Headquarters. The design concept is derived from the business characteristic itself. Starting from operation water buses and later turned into manufacturing beer, the company has a deep connection with “water”. The flow of the water is then adapted into the flow of space, combined with Thai rustic decoration style. Golden bubbles, gray and black are employed to create a formal and dignified personality. Their product lines have also been developed into a concept for each zone based on each product. With this approach, the zones ended up having different characters, making the program fun and far from boring. The products’ slogans are used as the gimmicks as well. For example, Leo’s ‘the more the merrier’ slogan was translated into the town hall, or Singha soda’s ‘sparkling down to the last drop’, which was used a reference of the design for the meeting room because it conveys this image of a serene and calm space that is filled with ideas when a brainstorming session takes place, just like the bubbles created when you shake a bottle of sparkling water. The continuous, flowing water is a main concept to define the direction and create a new central space for the organization. The existing 7-meter high space allows the designer to add the mezzanine creating the dimension and a vertical space, to support more users. This also can initiate more activities, and cooperation. Technology was integrated in order to create a workplace that would not only be aesthetically pleasing with pleasurable work environment but also a smart office that people will be working in, even with the changes the future may bring. The program needed to accommodate different formats of working while the design focused on facilitating spaces that encourage participation and interactions. A co-working space is also included to enable the employees’ freedom to decide how they work. The design is also developed to maximize the utility and efficiency of functional spaces. Moreover, One of Boon Rawd’s greatest contributions is its endeavor to be a socially responsible organization. The designer symbolized social responsibility in the form of eco-friendly materials and substitute materials, creating a concept that is meaningful and complete. By diving deep and re-visiting the company’s history, this headquarters is an example of how interior design can represents a legacy. From a family business, the company is unique in a certain way. Therefore, the design has accompanied the warm, cozy, residential touch. There are several reception and lounge areas, the grand dining room for the family, the executive meeting room, and the top executive offices. All these have leveraged the place to be much more than an office.
