The client resides overseas, so his brief was to create a space that reflected the costal location and relaxed lifestyle of Bondi for when he returned home, whilst still feeling luxurious. The view onto the waves of Bondi Beach were a source of inspiration for the material palette, taking cues from nature’s form, texture and colour. The site is quite small so we redesigned the floor plan to ensure it was maximised whilst capturing the postcard view. We designed with materials that would endure the coastal location, including aged bronze tapware designed not to rust paired alongside handmade glazed tiles and marble. The timber veneer used on the joinery was custom finished, showcased in the kitchen alongside a marble sink and rough edge splash back, inspired by the crashing waves. The range hood shroud was custom fabricated stainless steel in a specialty finish, to ensure aesthetics of the “functional” were also beautiful. Tumbled stone flooring in the kitchen transitioned seamlessly into timber flooring in the bedrooms, softened by rugs, natural woven wallpaper and custom bead heads. The walls were white set to ensure a precise, perfectly flat finish, a lovely complement to the timber panelled ceiling which adds visual depth.
