With an immersive installation designed by Studio Salaris for its Piazza san Simpliciano showroom, high-end manufacturer Tai Ping presents in Milan the world premiere of its Biophilic collection, consisting of sixteen rugs made with un-dyed natural fibres. The space, entirely remodelled with various types of wools and transformed into a soft cocoon, hosts the beautiful carpets, which represent the most advanced milestone achieved by Tai Ping on its path to sustainability.
Freshly carded Berber and felted wools, used as a covering for all surfaces, generates a dense and soft envelope, from which the Biophilic rugs, displayed on the walls, seem to come to life. “We have interpreted the raw wools as a sculptural material, to be modelled and touched, which covers not only the surfaces, but also the counter and the central column,” explains Alessandra Salaris, owner of Studio Salaris, “it is a reminder of art and, at the same time, a tale that leads back to the origins of the artefacts”.
The 16 Biophilic carpets are engineered with aesthetics, durability and sustainability in mind. While all Tai Ping products are built to last, the natural face fibres, backing and latex in these rugs ensure minimal impact at the end of their lifecycles. The carpets are also un-dyed, which removes a water-hungry step in the manufacturing process and further reduces energy consumption. The rugs are distinguished by geometric, organic or naturalistic patterns, outlined in fascinating natural shades of beiges, greys, whites and browns, and are made with Tai Ping's customary craftsmanship according to manual and hybrid tufting processes with expert hand-finishes.
The installation, designed by Studio Salaris, enhances the design material of the Biophilic collection into sculptural and artistic shapes, inspired by nature, its forms and colour language.
The exhibition was conceived for the 2024 Milan Fuorisalone and is visible in the Piazza san Simpliciano showroom until the month of May 2024. https://www.taipingcarpets.com/biophilic-launch-at-milan-fuorisalone
