Imagining a new era for the live concert experience Following participation in the design of Billie Eilish’s Where Do We Go? 2020 arena world tour—halted due to the pandemic—Moment Factory was invited to oversee the creative and show direction for an exclusive, hour-long, 13-song digital livestream performance. This virtual show expanded on the music and initial creative direction of the 2020 world tour, and was inspired by some of the themes featured on Billie’s album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” CREATIVITY The multimedia production studio joined forces with extended reality company XR Studios to create an augmented live performance enhanced with layers of dynamic and impactful visual effects. Inspired by Billie Eilish’s vision, Moment Factory directed and produced original visual content that captures her creative universe, including a giant spider lurking behind the performer, an infinite spacescape of stars, a dreamlike ocean filled with sea creatures, and an interactive live mosaic featuring fans. Designed to connect fans with the celebrated artist in a bold and meaningful way, the concert was a live event designed to be experienced online. Pushing the limits of technological innovation, the event sets a new standard for COVID-era livestreaming. INNOVATION This unique live show uses Extended Reality (XR), an umbrella term for all existing immersive technologies that merge physical and virtual worlds, enhancing the performance with a digital environment that evolves in real-time. Music fans from all over the world were brought together and transported from their homes into Billie’s world as she performed a live set with her brother Finneas, as well as drummer Andrew Marshall. FUNCTIONALITY/INCLUSIVITY/SUSTAINABILITY This easily accessible online experience reconnected Billie Eilish to her fans as the entire music industry seeks new and meaningful ways to preserve the magic of live performance. Proceeds from the sale of certain Billie Eilish merchandise items benefited Crew Nation, a support fund set up to help live music production staff throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. How the pandemic challenged you to approach your set differently with the use of digital scapes and tech Moment Factory continuously experiments, striving to push the boundaries of technology and develop extraordinary immersive experiences. The studio loves learning about the newest technologies and finding novel ways to integrate them into live shows and entertainment. The pandemic forced Moment Factory to rethink connection and the ways people come together safely to enjoy shared musical experiences. As part of this approach, they sought to explore ways that technology and original content, inspired by the Billie Eilish’s universe, could be used to create an intimate and meaningful moment between the artist and her audience. «Both the pre-show and the show laid out a refreshingly honest value proposition for Covid-era livestreaming: You’re not paying to see a live concert substitute; you’re paying to see a technological feat, to connect to music in a new way...» - RollingStone
