For this new build, the clients wanted a luxurious coastal home that optimised the stunning views and enjoyed a seamless connection between inside and out. And, while it would start out as their weekender, it had to evolve into their forever home, geared for eventual full-time living. It had to last, both in practical and aesthetic terms. While it had to be casual and laid-back, it had to offer the sophistication of city living. With its soaring, vaulted ceilings and large floor areas, together with a central courtyard connecting to the living areas, it’s a home of generous proportions. Therein lay the challenge for the design – within that lofty framework, the interiors had to feel grounded, with a more human scale. That’s been achieved through a series of living and dining zones that adapt to the time of day and the uses they are being put. Because the owner had young adult children, practicality featured high on the wish-list, so robust surfaces and materials were nonnegotiable. The interiors also had to avoid the cliches of beach houses – you won’t see any seashells or model sailing boats here.
This is a fresh take on beachside living. While the palette of textures and colours reflects the location this home takes an altogether different course and features tantalising elements of the unpredictable. While embodying a decorating scheme that reflects the seaside location, it ups the ante by introducing vibrant splashes of colour and a touch of Morocco for an exotic air.
