With this project, we wanted to give back its nobility to the practice of cinema and make visitors privileged guests. Inspired by the spectacle of the street transfigured by the signs of William Klein’s Broadway by night (1958), we drew on the great architecture of entertainment (opera, theaters) to design an opulent, legible, attractive architecture that would radiate the richness of the 7th art and make this culture accessible to all.
For this, we have designed a legible, attractive and festive architecture. Appearing on Place François Mitterrand, the grey and white concrete monolith with its sober and elegant lines is made evanescent by its double metal skin illuminated by a network of LEDs forming a starry vault in the heart of the city. Contrasting with this neutral monumentality, the interior chromatism based on a complementary orange and blue color scheme gives off a dynamic and opulent atmosphere.
By night as well as by day, the Etoile Cinémas multiplex in Béthune intends to become an emblematic place of the city policy of Béthune – Smart City, and a new landmark for its inhabitants. It will also support the development of the ZAC de la Gare, adjacent to the Nicolas Michelin eco-district.
