Following the concept of The Shade Rouge, the designer restored the building to its original structure and then reorganized to develop the mottled red by modern craftsmanship and the rendering of light. The project is located in Beijing's East Business District, as a film investment company's clubhouse, for working, meeting friends, chatting and hosting a feast. The designers rethought the new look of the courtyard by capturing “the breath” of the whole space, in order to create the possibility of imagination to draw away from the moment in this conflict between old and new, real and virtual, natural and man-made. Following the concept of “The Shade Rouge” the team restored the building to its original structure, then reorganize and emphasize, developing and projecting the already mottled red by modern craftsmanship and the rendering of light. The 400 square meter courtyard requires two dining areas and a separate space for tea or cigars. The main room facing the main entrance is used for meeting guests and formal banquets. The east and west wings are both corridors and display spaces, and extend in the direction to the courtyard to meet the functional requirements. The extended parts follow the concept of “shade” to be as invisible as possible. The red box at the entrance, the red columns and red door frames around the courtyard are intentionally emphasized. Back to its root, this is a Chinese traditional architecture, however, Isabelle hopes not only to revive its former glory or completely refurbish it, but let the old and new coexist, so it can shine again while conceiving the imprint of the times, which is also part of her long-term research project of how to live poetically in contemporary times.
