Bebek Hotel is an iconic building located on the coast of Istanbul. Since its opening it has served as a popular spot for multiple generations; overlooking the Bosphorus. The hotel was eventually well-worn and needed a complete renovation to keep up with the modern aesthetic expectation of its class. Given the historical and cultural importance of the building, it was an exciting challenge for us to come up with a concept and design that respects its origin; representing strong traces of its roots while offering the comfort of today’s standards and meeting the modern aesthetic expectations of its guests.
Starting with the bedrooms; in order to achieve our conceptual goal, we kept some of the original pieces. The type and color of the wood used in the new furniture matches the original pieces kept in the room. The layout of the rooms have been rearranged for better circulation and to allow more space. We repetitively used mirror panels in modular form to add dynamism and energy to the spaces. The restaurant is fitted with customized seating and tables, and the bar has been extended. The roof has been out of use for many years. We designed it as a rooftop bar/lounge area to provide the guests with an open space. During the day time the space offers tanning beds which turn into lounge seating when put together at night.
