Neri&Hu have designed BAUM stores, Shiseido's new high-end skincare brand. BAUM Yokohama, the first concept store for Shiseido’s new brand, welcomes customers with a stroll in the forest. Neri&Hu’s prototype design for the brand originates from the brand manifesto itself, which celebrates natural beauty, organic ingredients and sustainable sourcing. Clusters of wood columns along the perimeter of the space form an abstract forest, within which the customers navigate to discover and experience BAUM products. Vertical wooden columns of varying widths and densities accommodate hanging brass shelves, displays, and mirrors. A long brass display catches the customer’s eye along the store giving the impression to float on metal think structure. The full range of BAUM products is displayed along and softly backlit leading customers to the trial zone. Grey terrazzo floor representing the landscape onto which the forest grows, forms three functional pedestals to become products display and also a sink for customers to try the range of products. With sustainability a central core value of the BAUM brand, Neri&Hu uses a well-defined palette of raw materials to celebrate the natural innate beauty of the elements. The concept of the inner forest invites customers to discover and immerse into BAUM brand. The oak saplings used for the products are grown in the shop for three months before being planted in the Baum forest
