For the over 1,000 work community in the new corporate office of BASF in Kuala Lumpur, we crafted a workplace that aligns with BASF values of Creative, Open, Responsible and Entrepreneurial (CORE).

Innovative Mental Model
In order to shape an effective CORE hybrid workspace, our project's innovative approach lies in the strategy framework in the form of a Hybrid-Activity Matrix as mental model, which identified four distinct combinations between intensity of concentration and levels of collaborative interactions (spaces for high-focus, high-interaction; high-focus, low-interaction; low-focus, high-interaction; and low-focus, low-interaction). This model allowed us to discuss with the client to identify needs, thus tailor environments to match each combination, facilitating diverse activities, optimising collaborative needs and task performance.

Robust Planning and Testing
Additionally, prior to design, our approach underwent rigorous planning and test-fitting, with each floor's layout meticulously evaluated for factors such as space utilisation, noise distribution, and health and safety. This iterative design process ensured that our solutions were not only innovative but also practical and user-centric.

Innovative & Creative Design Language
At the heart of our creative strategy to facilitate and express the connections between people, the mission, and the workplace, we developed a "connective patterns" design language —a visually captivating expression of connectivity inspired by BASF's rich history, products, and sites. This versatile pattern's realisation transcends traditional boundaries, finding its place on various design manifestations and dimensions, from design forms to patterns and lines on objects, fabric, tiles, and glass frosting.

Concept Themes of Creativity & Agility
The design also revolves around the integration of conceptual themes related to company culture such as creativity and agility. The swift forms of the structures and the meticulously interconnected environments not only optimise workflow but also convey a message of dynamic collaboration and efficiency. This seamless fusion of form and function not only enhances the visual appeal of the spaces but also fosters a conducive environment for innovation and productivity.

Techno-Organic Geometry in Design
Furthermore, a key element of our creative approach is the use of Techno-Organic Geometry – a distinctive design form that blends geometrical (science) and organic shapes (nature), reflecting BASF's forward-thinking ethos.

Functionally a Human Space
The design is human centric and experience empowering. Recognising the evolving and varying work needs of individuals throughout the day, we tailored the ambience and design around the human experience of the workplace community. This includes settings such as silent zones, collaboration zones, recharge zones and more, all carefully crafted to allow people to not only connect with others, but in touch with oneself.
