PLY atelier designed 2017 Artek booth at IMM cologne. The installation that consisted of a two-dimensional back-drop with a simple furniture and light arrangement in the front paid homage to the instagram effect that uses the recognition value of a popular motif, in this case: the lasts supper. From nearly all points around the booth it was possible to take pictures with an illusion of a room with a view. Pictures from visitors have been spread over all social media channels during the fair. As a way to portrait the humanity in Alvar Aalto’s works the austere composition was counteracted with warm colours and playful shapes, that way also showing Artek’s new material and product range. The goal of the design was to reach the visitors on a human level, inviting them to enter the scene, to take a seat and start picking the arrangement of offered fruit on the table. By providing a popular photo motive the scene came alive with people posing in front, sitting together and playfully taking on roles in the bustle of the furniture fair.
