Seamlessly connected spaces & high-gloss finishes artfully blur the line between family home & luxury hotel, creating a striking modern residence that’s as practical as it is party-ready.

This renovation & extension to an existing art deco building was predicated on the clients’ desire to create a comfortable family home that could also function as a sophisticated entertaining space.

Keen to salvage what was left of the building’s design heritage following a heavy-handed renovation during the 1970s, the designer created a concept around the idea of unifying the past with the future, family with social/work life & subtlety with spectacle.

In the original front room doorways were raised to create a sense of higher ceilings & greater spatial flow, while a small service staircase was removed to make way for a grand sweeping entrance staircase.
Flowing seamlessly beyond, the new addition to the house is designed to appear like a floating glass box, cantilevering out over the outdoor entertaining area & pool, creating a deep recess that protects the rooms behind the custom glazing from the heat & glare of the Australian sun.
