A Design Center and Warehouse that steps away from a traditional retail space, it’s a hybrid a cultural and design center that promotes and exhibits art, architecture and design, a connection between Wynwood’s creative scene, Grupo Arca’s clients and the community. We aimed to approach Wynwood in a different and innovative way, to create a space that relates to the context but also that reflects the essence of the brand. Our strategy was, rather than intervene with graffiti, to create a physical expression, a permanent element. We designed a facade made in ceramic tiles, two tiles that alternate in shape to create depth, shadows and movement and use it as a canvas and raw material to be intervened with a piece of art. The best ally for it was SUPERFLEX, three artists known for blending art, science and activism, the piece is named Like a Force of Nature. The color palette is formed by a selection of currencies and a Fibonacci based pattern. The flickering appearance underlines the overwhelming experience of our current economic systems, as natural as volcanos or tsunamis, almost like a force of nature. Unlike its colorful façade, the interior is designed as a neutral space that shift the focus into ARCA’S collections. Wynwood is presented as a museum-grade experience where the materials are showcased as unique works made by nature, creating an opportunity for visitors to have an interactive and sensory experience with its products. The concept moves away from traditional retail space and promotes learning, stimulates dialogue and knowledge, and offers a platform to understand how architecture, design and art is created worldwide. On the ground floor, guests are greeted by a visual experience. Videos of the quarries where ARCA sources its materials, its processes and solution are projected at its reception. In the double-height stone gallery, a curated display of massive slabs of marble sourced from around the world are presented for the customers to purchase, where an indoor crane will reach down and help them on its selection. The second floor offers a journey through the evolution of materials, from natural wood to manufactured wood, ceramics, tiles and porcelain, with an area dedicated to each one of them. The space invites designers and architects to meet with clients, experience the materials and get inspired for their projects.
