Antasia Beach Club is an homage and a reminder of the value of being next to nature.
Located on the shore of the idyllic Sodap beach in Paphos, Antasia Beach Club was conceived out of two basic premises; the presence of pristine nature and the simple pleasures it brings to our life.
Located inside a landmark building with an iconic architectural presence designed by Psomas Architects, the new restaurant celebrates the sea and the rich history of Paphos – one of the cultural and natural treasures of the world’s heritage.
The restaurant is crowned by a rooftop terrace bar that welcomes guests and locals to share and enjoy the alluring sea and the enigmatic horizon. Antasia gradually reveals itself as guests descend from the top terrace to the beach level below. While completely tucked under its terrace and revealing itself only after completing the descent, the space is completely embedded within the beach below and strikes a delicate balance between the man-made and nature, a one of an absent – present quality.
Inside, the spatial and seating arrangement has been developed to amplify the pristine sea as the main stage and celebrate the reason why we have arrived at Antasia in the first place. The table heights step down from East to West, like an amphitheater of sorts where all guests could share an undisturbed view of the ‘stage’. This ascending flow of human energies from sea -to- restaurant and up the esplanade-bar above resonates beautifully with the essence of time and place, tying both harmoniously together.
A sea of white scales has been introduced throughout the space resonating with nature’s underwater sea-life; playing with size and structure combined with opaque and reflective finishes add a touch of subtle richness to the spatial energies of Antasia. Bleached scrap-wood tabletops and the choice of chairs with their roped-metal-frames add a flair of simplicity to a tranquil space that celebrates undisrupted and inspiring views over the Mediterranean.
A white terrazzo floor echoes the seafoam hitting the shore and makes for a beautiful contrast with the exposed concrete ceiling we left intact. The stainless-steel bar topped in a terrazzo speckled in blues and greens works in harmony with the grey hues of the Alabaster communal table while the pendant light fixtures add an intimate and personal feel to the entire space.
