The Mindspace Dam project completed in November 2018. The site was chosen for its standout space and history, as well as for its prime location, situated two short blocks away from the renowned and heavily frequented Dam Square. It has two distinctive building façades - the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal side in the style of Neo-Renaissance and the Spuistraat side, built in the style of Amsterdam School. The original layout of the building included many narrow corridors and small, dark rooms. Wanting a wide, warm and welcoming feel, the team drastically opened up these spaces to create brightly lit central lounges and large passageways for a smooth flow between the office spaces. The juxtaposition of old Amsterdam, with the upcoming and fashionable locale creates a unique atmosphere that is Mindspace. The impressive dining room style meeting room stands out in its unique historic setting, whilst the original rustic feel of the old attic space, which a century ago was a machine room, has been transformed into a calming work and social space, surrounded by greenery and comfortable furniture. Similarly, this is demonstrated with flair in Dam’s central event space. The crowning feature, created by a local vintage supplier, is a miniature model of a traditional Dutch boat. By hanging the boat from the ceiling a marked focal point was achieved without hindering the space’s practical purpose, and whilst still retaining the Dutch heritage.
