This project transformed a former engineering office into a vibrant space for events and researcher and student co-working for Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii), one of Canada's preeminent centres of artificial intelligence. The new Amii Hub offers researchers an stimulating, cutting-edge, and comfortable workspace, while revitalizing the city's downtown core, and celebrating leadership in Artificial Intelligence.

The new Amii space is designed as a love letter to the city of Edmonton. Beloved neighbourhoods are highlighted in the design, celebrating iconic landmarks and places such as Old Strathcona, Hawrelak Park, and Borden Park. The unique aesthetic of the Hub serves as a beautiful backdrop to the innovation and cutting-edge technologies offered by the space.

The space is varied, colourful, cheeky, playful and highly functional. It invites international visitors to explore the city and everything that makes it great, without leaving the Hub! Its social spaces and café are inspired by the warm, vintage materials of Old Strathcona, the watery blues and sinuous shapes of the event space pay homage to Hawrelak Park, the offices and towers of Downtown are represented in the coworking spaces, while the colourful dichromic Borden Park can be found in the quiet concentration nook.

Working in a collaborative and rapid flow, the project was completed very efficiently. Partial occupancy was granted after just one month of construction, in time for Edmonton's AI Week and to celebrate Amii's 20th anniversary.
