2021

Every year during the US Open, American Express brings tennis fans closer to the sport they love. In 2021, due to the state of the pandemic, the USTA required Amex’s onsite activation space at the US Open for additional player lounge space due to social distancing requirements.

Amex still backed fans onsite in myriad ways (American Express Radios for fans to listen to the live match broadcast, Frictionless Shopping, Lounges, and more!), but also looked for a meaningful opportunity to engage our tennis fan Card Members in a brand new way.

It’s almost impossible to get a tennis court in NYC. So Amex popped up 6 of them at Hudson River Park’s Pier 76 providing much needed courts to a city hungry for tennis. Reservations sold out in 48 hours. Coco Gauff showed up and rallied with Card Members. There was a custom lounge, food trucks, ping pong, equipment demos, and more.

This fan experience showed the lengths Amex will go to back NYC tennis fans.
