This multimedia exhibition is dedicated to a unique European narrow gauge railway line that is still operational. The exhibition design is akin to travelling in a moving railcar – one can take a seat on improvised train benches and observe the slowly moving landscape on monitors. Video footage is augmented by local stories about the little train Banitis that rolls along the railway line, conjuring up an all-encompassing pictorial narrative of important historical and local events as well as technical details of trains and rail transport.
The exhibition is located in a reconstructed building that once served as the station’s left luggage shed. The exhibition design was created, respecting the historical building, as well as the tectonics and textures of the baggage shed – exposed board walls have been preserved, a sturdy network of power cables and electric switches are exhibited, along with railcar benches modelled on the railway line’s historical bench designs.
Wooden baggage boxes are used to position exhibits and digital information carriers, while an inclusive engaging experience for visitors is provided by 3D virtual reality that allows them to see the world through the train driver’s eyes.
