For Alma, the iconic chain of student restaurants in Leuven, we have created a new stimulating and playful identity. Gasthuisberg and Alma 2 were the first to get a total makeover. Our battle cry: ‘Alma takes a trip, eat a plate of colour!’ The once strict and purely functional design makes way for colour, contrast and light. Here come the first millennial proof student restaurants: neo nonsense rules. The Gasthuisberg restaurant takes form as a ‘playground’. On the floor: playful lines that remind you of the gym. On the walls: huge collages with a touch of Monty Python. The image walls provide ‘instagrammability’ – you can now also make a unique selfie at Alma. At Alma 2 we take it even further: this is not only a place to meet up. We also initiate change and self-awareness: Alma 2 stands for healthy and vegetarian, in a fresh and pleasantly disturbed way. At both restaurants it is all about eating together, working together, relaxing together, organising together. The community feeling is key. The renewed restaurants have been created in close collaboration with the KU Leuven community – students ànd employees. So that everyone can be proud of ‘our’ Alma again.
