The Brief: To create a dynamic restaurant and bar operation that showcased Nikkei cuisine and mixology theatre; to cater to the complete night out. The double fronted unit needed to feature an engaging dining area with feature ceviche counter and a more intimate cocktail lounge, all wrapped by a sea-facing terrace The Results: Aji is a modern day interpretation of days gone by, with an easy laid back charm; mixing a bold South American palette with a contemporary twist on the traditional Peruvian aesthetic. By capturing the mixed DNA of the centuries old Nikkei tradition and blending quintessentially Japanese and unmistakably Peruvian elements, the interior offers a contemporary interpretation with a depth of distinction. A strategically placed cherry blossom tree adds Japanese sophistication while etched mirrors with Peruvian portraits suggest a story to tell.
