Agate is a two-story summer home designed to delicately exude tranquility using its unique combination of materials and colors that celebrate the enchanting Mediterranean coast it sits on. The client wanted an interesting summer home with a strong personality.

With an abundance of natural inspiration surrounding the home, the Yasmina Makram team focused on recreating the Mediterranean’s charm and endless shades of blue through the use of customized materials and colors for a scintillating ambiance. The home is a harmonious combination of subtle yet bold and daring elements. Its main feature is its dazzling white and blue glass terrazzo which floors the indoors and outdoors making the space bright and airy. It is paired with a striking blue herringbone wood pattern for the main pivot door and remaining indoors.

Rounded edges are found in the built-in shelving on the ground floor and in the bedrooms, the stairs’ handrail and in the detail of the concave cornice, creating a space that effortlessly flows. They, along with the walls, are finished using the Dahara technique, an age-old Alexandrian technique combining paste, sand and cement. The indoor and outdoor furniture selection is strikingly subtle through its use of light colors and textures, perfectly accentuating the surrounding materials.

In the bedrooms, the team designed cane headboards spanning across the back wall paired with custom Yasmina Makram designed side tables with a softly rounded body and legs. The art, lighting and accessories are curated to marry all the elements together and bring harmony to the space. In the reception, two contemporary Egyptian paintings add bold colors and are complemented by two beautifully handcrafted Moroccan carpets in shades of teal.

Decorative lighting fixtures made using recycled materials in a pale beige were chosen for the dining room and terrace, casting a soft light. The flooring extends onto the bar with a pearly white countertop with curved edges seamlessly blending with the totality of the space. Blanc Cassé lap pool tiles, almost one with the flooring, are accentuated with a sleek linear lighting adding a particular charm in the evening.

Agate’s uniqueness is its soft details, subtle elegance and the fresh aura and feel it creates for its residents and guests.
