Our client, After You Dessert Cafe, is a famous bakery cafe in Thailand.

Innovation
This project is located in a new office building situated in Phaya Thai district, a densely populated CBD of Bangkok. The cafe has an unusually large floor plan of 320 SQ.M. and uniquely high ceiling. The concept is to create an environment where people could relax and spend time freely while enjoying their favorite dessert. The cafe becomes a warm shelter against its busy context.

Creativity
Through architectural elements and spatial design, we are able to achieve a light and airy atmosphere. Series of wooden structure and canvas, designed in modular, are used to define and create space. The Entrance, Communal Zone, Mezzanine and Kitchen, each variation conveys specific meaning and use. Together the for sets of structures forms a central court, creating a sense of communal space.

Functionality
Throughout design process, creativity and functionality, the two topics are considered intuitively and simultaneously.

The entrance
While vertical planes of canvas create privacy and define boundary, diagonal defines entrance. Bench is part of the structure. Thus, affects the interval of vertical column.

Communal Zone
Facing the front façade, canvas planes provide shading form harsh tropical sunlight. At the same time, they visually lower the ceiling height giving a sense of comfort.

Mezzanine
The structure is split into two stories. Lower Space, the scale becomes intimate. The mezzanine turns out to be people’s favorite. Bean bags instead of chairs. Staircase is widened to create stadium effect. A private meeting room behind the stairs becomes favorite spot among regular customers to hold small meeting and party.

Kitchen
The structure highlights an open kitchen. Customers are able to see movement and smell freshly baked bakery.

Sustainability
Wood is the primary material in this project. It has always been our priority to replace synthetic with natural renewable material. Reducing the amount of what we use is equally important. Through design, we experiment with multiple forms and structure to come up with the most impactful space using only the essential.
