Anchovy Social is the rooftop bar from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group at the Thompson Hotel in DC. Parts and Labor Design designed a space that emphasizes the waterfront and National Park views becoming a destination in itself within the hotel and larger DC area. The design sought to create a contrasting yet unified experience through a dark-to-light palette with two differing aesthetics and points of service. The entry off the elevators announces a palette of dark grey stained oak, moody wall coverings and paint colors that reference a more sophisticated night time offering. The palette is complemented with grey glass chandeliers and glossy white and caramel tiles at the back bar. The scalloped shelves and curved bar act in contrast to soften the harder materials. As you are drawn into the second bar you find yourself in a much lighter environment set against a Silken Blue ceiling with custom shelving that decorates the back bar and the service station on the opposite wall. The lighter natural Walnut finishes complement details of white powder coated steel and an eclectic mix of lounge furniture and high-top seating. The design intends to bring elements of contrast and variety for guests to choose which experience they wish to enjoy. It is playful and dynamic alluding to the offer and overall brand to create a holistic design experience.
