Custom Chandelier

8VC showcases a blend of fresh design and historical preservation, breathing new life and energy into a century-old building while creating a welcoming and inspiring environment for employees and visitors. The design was inspired by the original character of the building, incorporating contemporary elements that respect and enhance its heritage. A key feature of the design is the addition of a glazed exterior corner, which emulates the screened porch that once graced the building. The glazing creates a seamless connection between the interior and exterior spaces and re-orients the entry to the back of the space. The new entryway allows for a grand wraparound plaza connecting the main building with the clubhouse boardroom.

Inside, the sophisticated study-like atmosphere is achieved through the careful selection of materials and color-mapped palettes, including walnut wood floors, lime wash paint, striking wall coverings, plaster arches and marble finishes. A one-of-a-kind fireplace commands attention and infuses warmth and sophistication into the entry lobby space. Meticulously hand crafted from .040 aluminum by the artisans at Metal Union in Georgia, the piece embodies artistry and elegance. Precision in every curve and detail reflects dedication to their craft. The main stair traverses a grand chandelier created by artist Karen Hawkins. The leather wrapped reception desk was crafted by David Ambrose. Custom lighting throughout the space highlights the warm and rich interior materiality. The furnishings, a mix of vintage and modern pieces with luxe fabrics and textures, create a sense of intimacy for employees and visitors alike.

Our clients desired an office that felt like a home, offering a sense of luxury without being ostentatious and providing multiple areas for meeting, hosting and collaborating. The layout took cues from the existing chimneys to create new hearth moments and leaned into dark, warm tones to create a rich and cozy interior. Within the exterior plaza, the existing heritage oak canopy was preserved, which provides exceptional shade for the outdoor gathering area.

Historical preservation drove the sustainable elements as we led the transformation of a century-old building into a vibrant and functional office space. With updated technology, the addition of modern occupancy sensors for lights enhanced energy efficiency and occupant comfort throughout the building. Additionally, the preservation of the existing heritage oak canopies is a contribution to environmental well-being.
