Jeju is a volcanic in the middle of the sea with natural beauty. Seongsan-eup, which is located on the east side, borders the sea and has spectacular rock formations. We wanted to create a space where facility users can interact with nature while also infusing traditional and regional sentiments. The first method used was visualizing the characteristics of the place. By listening to the language of nature that has a long history, we deeply considered the feel of Jeju wind, the physical properties of the rocks, and the structure of the light, and we sought to humbly settle upon the land and architecture with new poetic language. Second is the commercial characteristics, and the users of the space are customers. We had to get people to visit this place among a number of cafés in Jeju, and to do this, we chose to show consideration for the scenery and the physical properties of nature in Jeju After entering the space, the customer faces a fabric object that shares qualities with an ocean. We inserted windows on the south and north sides to create a breeze, and used a yarn material that allows for wind to pass through. This ultra-thin cloth allows for the refreshing Jeju wind to flow inside, and it was woven visually. In the commercial spaces adjacent to the sea, there will certainly be an invisible struggle among customers to take a window seat. The back side adjacent to the window was created with a slight step, considering the view of the sea by ensuring a level difference. At the rear, the courtyard was placed to allow customers to feel the light of Jeju and the bamboo forest, while also considering customers who have found themselves with seats without a view by providing exceptionally comfortable seating. With most of the windows located on the east side, we ensured that the space, which could be cold, turned out to be clear and warm based on the light and landscape of Jeju embodied by the courtyard. The bathroom is an unpainted natural space, and the landscape of the outside is drawn into the interior to fill the place with the beauty of nature. The atmosphere is constantly changing with it being filled with the blue sky and flowers during the day and filled with the warming light of the sunset in the evening. The space brings in the scenery of Jeju, such as its stones, sea, wind, sky, light, and trees as ordinary objects, and aims to show the ecology and demise of extraordinary but always existing nature.
