212 is the address on the Amstel, but it’s also the balance between two passionate chefs joining forces to create one unforgettable experience.
The focus of the interior is on the central kitchen and the guest experience; everything else is literally greyed out.
The two Michelin-star chefs Richard van Oostenbrugge and Thomas Groot claim their spot in the centre of the space inside the open kitchen. The layout is designed around this kitchen. Guests are visitors and invited to sit down at the counter that wraps around the workspace. A personal pendant light, a wooden drawer for cutlery, and a comfortable chair mark every guest’s seat. Guests and chefs can interact directly, sharing their passion and elevating the dining experience for both.
The materialization has been kept pure and honest: stainless steel for the kitchen in contrast with natural oak for the bar, floor, ceiling and pyramid shaped surfaces to create a warm and intimate ambience. The perimeter between the façade and dining area is completely grey, acting as a neutral filter between the busy outside and the minimal interior inside. It directs the focus to the central kitchen and achieves a secluded and dimmed ambiance.
With this luxury restaurant being a true destination, the exterior façade is left completely unbranded. The interior features one small logo on the kitchen hood in the otherwise unbranded interior. The focus of 212 is on the food and preparation, leaving all classical etiquette redundant.
