As the name suggests, the Tripod Coffee Table is supported by three legs. The shape of primitive pottery is mostly derived from nature, while three feet objects are rarely seen in the natural world, the existence of three-feet containers is the proof that our intelligent ancestors got rid of simulation and entered the stage of "creating". This “growing out of nothing” story inspired the designer to create this product. The initial model of the product is kneaded by the designer with clay, after that, the silhouette of the clay model is captured by a scanner, and dimensions are enlarged to a proper size of the digital model. Later, it is carefully adjusted to guarantee stability and usability. Last but not least, we use the digital model to create a full-scale physical model for the production of fiberglass. We look forward that the work can present the characteristics of fiberglass, interweave fibers and the gloss, but the traditional craftsmanship could not meet our standard, and it became the biggest challenge of the development. The placing of the joint line takes us uncountable times of experiment on laying. Two improvements are made in the design scheme. One is to change the position of the joint line by hiding it in unobvious corner while contributing more effective manufacture. The second is to add fiberglass to the adhesive, and with overdays polished, the product performed in a smooth and cobblestone-like surface. Each process needs to be precise, it requires us and the artisans to pay more attention on. The creation journey is base on sensibility, we aim to deliver emotion through the creation. To achieve this concept, we didn't follow the regular development process from the beginning of creation, instead, we decided to work on a new path of our own. The designer starts the creation from clay-kneading, without a specific aim of “ what it should be”. Such a way of creation is perceptual, illogical, and free, and the appearance of the prototypes has no clue to be traced back, but this perceptual production surly come from what has been seen, thought, and experienced. Each experience is personal and generally would not be recorded since it is without a universal value.
