Threshold is a series of desking and storage solutions designed as a place to work. It solves the serious problem of cleaning under the cabinets, which in the long run becomes a health issue. Self-standing desk and storage units are an open and flexible system, easy to compose and change when needed. The openness of the design allows the inhabitants to take advantage of maximum air circulation and sunlight. Besides, the solutions are provided with minimum weights possible, as light materials and slim profiles of the legs and columns, all designed and engineered specifically for this design.
The idea is to re-visit the definition of the workplace, and replace the workstation arguments with a new idea of settlement where people create their own dwelling realm, with units that are translucent and easy to compose, and easy to clean.
The idea to elevate the whole storage setting from the floor is to allow %100 cleaning below all existing pieces. This is a serious issue today with standard cabinets which are max 5cm high from the floor, where it is impossible to clean under such volumes, sometimes for many years. The openness of the systems allows for maximum light to enter the work area, as well as highest possible air circulation. The ease of cleaning is a critical issue for the coming period and a prior argument to sooth the worries of the working habitants. Ease of composing and re-composing is the critical benefit for changing future needs.
The materials are specifically selected that have least impact on nature, and have highest rate of recyclability, such as aluminum structure that can be %100 re-cycled. Or the plywood shelves that are easier to reuse or repair in time. Also the details are engineered in an attention that all materials can easily be dismantled at the end of the product life and be re-cycled. Besides, the idea of storage is handled as an open volume, thus elimination all the surfaces that would need to cover the body in a closed cabinet in the classical understanding. The design is also developed in a method that is very simple to change, update and repair in time, without the need to throw away any piece.
