Sisu light sculptures are ambient wall pieces that combine cast resin frames with multiple front materials.
3 models have been developed with an emphasis on round and flowing outlines. This takes into account the integration of the LED light. The cast resin lightweight frame is created from a mold that can be reused infinitely with durability in mind. The results are fluid shapes with multiple fronts to choose from.
The designs of the Sisu light sculptures are born in times when most of us are challenged in one way or the other. When Rik came across the Finnish term ‘Sisu’ it really resonated with his new concept of lights.
Sisu is translated as strength of will, determination, and perseverance. According to Rik one way of achieving your goals is to find a balance between fluidity and persistence. The Sisu lights aim to reflect this thinking.
Currently, there are 3 different shapes in this collection each made with a resin frame base and multiple front colors and materials. To create the organically shaped frames special molds have been designed. Liquid resin is poured into the mold and taken out as a solid frame shortly after. This mould can endlessly be re-used for reproduction. The resin frame holds LED lights on the backside as well as the cover on the front side. Indirect light creates a nice silhouette around the frame and lightens up the front surface. Multiple materials can be chosen for the front cover, like cane webbing, colored satin acrylic, and colored acrylic mirror. For the future, we are also looking to collaborate with manufacturers and designers who create interesting translucent surface materials to fit the resin frames.
We move within the rigid walls of everyday routine and forget that life is not a box but a fluid energy. With its misaligned shapes, Sisu reminds us that life can be colorful and playful.
Sisu is not only a lamp. It is a sculpture, a mirror, a light, and a decoration that brings fluidity and elegance together. The innovation of the lamp is in its efficiency of the creation process. Cast resin frames are created in molds that can be used endless times saving on energy and waste. By using multiple Sisu sculptures, you can create an installation, a playful composition. Endless color options and matching fronts have something for everyone.
