The collaboration of the two brands will culminate in the launch of collection of spectacular wooden furniture items in spring 2022. The “SEYUN” Collection will comprise amongst other chairs, armchairs and tables designed by ZHD and crafted in wood by Karimoku Furniture.

Exploring the juxtaposition between the hardness of the material wood and the sense of light- ness achieved through the design, the pieces are composed as a series of conjoined asymmetrical surfaces. Referencing Zaha Hadid‘s sense of aesthetic, each piece conveys a sense of elegance and standing. Meticulously crafted in wood in a combination of machine made and hand-finished processes, the tactile furniture items echo Zaha Hadid’s pioneering design language and Karimoku’s skills as a furniture manufacturer.

“Faithfully reproducing Zaha Hadid’s design in wood is particularly challenging. We are honoured to be involved in the making of her furniture designs, proving our knowledge and skills acquired throughout Karimoku’s history in craftsmanship dating back to 1940”, says Hiroshi Kato.

The first piece of furniture in the “SEYUN” collection by Zaha Hadid Design is a side chair to be revealed as a prototype in the exhibition at Karimoku Commons Tokyo and launched in spring 2022.
