A sage is a person with distinguished wisdom, an individual that tried almost everything to enhance their experience of the world and gained knowledge about human and life essence. In the process they catalyzed the information gained, into insight and sense. And in their calmness within, they live the richest of lives. This multipurpose coffee table brings the essence of the sage into a functional design. Three separate pieces, that represent the journey of the sage, fuse together into one powerful statement piece of architectural volume, to reveal the richness attained. Made of Caleidolegno MW Tiglio from Tabu and wood veneer, the first part levels up supported by brushed solid brass poles in various heights for displays of artifacts or books, representing the sage’s quest for knowledge. The middle part, is made of Giorgio Orobico Italian marble, slanted on the side with a velvet rectangular pouf to serve as a resting place, exemplifying the time for absorption of that knowledge. Incidentally, this part is where dark and light colors mash together mirroring the internal turmoil and new information being assimilated with the old ones. The final part features a stainless-steel origami like top held on brushed brass legs revealing the final transformation into the sage’s true self. Sage’s design transcends functionality into art. The sculptural piece’s intricate shape brings about a unique flow and steals the attention with a feeling of harmony. The unexpected marriage of wood, marble, stainless-teel and brass is evocative of the various natures of the human that come together to create the being. Fused together with masterful knowhow from local Lebanese craftsmen, the material become a solid unit conjuring a grounded feeling. While the piece is dense and heavy, it is very flexible as it can move through the hidden wheels revealing that once reached, the grounded state becomes second nature and remains present in every movement or state. This flexibility goes even further as the three pieces can be easily separated to stand on their own as side table and a seat. This fluidity in the design adds a sustainability layer to the piece, catering to the whims, needs and taste of the client ,especially when they feel a need to change the dynamic of their space.
