Mesh Virus-Control Flag Partition is a new item that adds color and protection to post-pandemic spaces. Functional installations were held in Milan and Tokyo, questioning new lifestyles. In the wake of the new coronavirus pandemic, we sought ways for people to use spaces safely. Mesh Virus-Control Flag Partition was developed in collaboration with Intersect by Lexus - Tokyo, a facility with a cafe, a bistro, and a gallery. The material is polyester mesh, used as a filter in the medical field.
New technology nanoparticles, which inhibit viruses by 99.9%, are attached to the polyester mesh, and the functions of virus removal and droplet infection control are implemented. Each one is designed to be seen as a flag that symbolizes a new life, based on the idea that "color is joy", and a mesh pattern printed in fluorescent colors with a bold color combination expresses vitality. Depending on the angle you view the partition from, the color density changes, creating joy in the space and giving it movement.
We presented Mesh Virus-Control Flag Partition in Milan at Alcova 2021. As the first Milan Design Week since the beginning of the pandemic, the event drew attention to new social renewal. Our installation with the message “color is joy” created joy in the hearts of many and attracted a lot of attention. In addition, the item has been highly successful in bringing customers back to cafes, restaurants and gallery spaces etc. The transparent acrylic boards used in many locations had been blocking people's voices from being heard, however as the mesh blocks viruses and allows wind to pass through people can communicate easily. Turning meeting into a safe, secure and joyful situation where people can co-exist together. The device is designed to be a new way of life after the pandemic.
