Marvin, our newest bedside light.

A kind of tribute to Mr. Marvin Gaye who wrote ‘sexual healing’ while he was living in Ostend. Turn the intensity switch to it’s max and it will definitely create the mood for some sexual healing if needed... Marvin has adjustable louvres to direct it’s light and has an integrated USB outlet.

The Marvin is delivered with a power cord but can also be connected directly to an electricity point.

We are Re-volt. A brand, a philosophy, but most of all a bunch of creatives and craftsmen. We aim to develop lighting, firstly, that is sustainable on the one hand, and beautifully designed on the other. Nice pieces of interior design in other words, which can be passed on generation after generation. Not only because of their quality, but because they’ve been shrouded in timeless design. And because we believe that only that which doesn’t change is ultimately interesting in a world where change, at an ever-increasing pace, is becoming the new constant.

Where we come from? Our roots lay at Modular, the near-infamous lighting company that has been defining the trends and language in the lighting industry since the 1980’s. Bernard Rommens, son of Modular-founder Paul and ex-creative director at the company has been responsible for the characte- ristically edgy designs and campaigns at Modular. In 1998 he can no longer deny the entrepreneurial genes his father passed on to him and goes off to found Rotor: his own agency (“because someone had to keep developing those Modular catalogs...”). Since then, Rotor has designed campaigns, booths, websites and interiors for a portfolio of well-known clients among whom BMW, Nespresso, Novy, Dierendonck and – of course – Modular.

But, all legacy aside and as is so often the case in the creative process, the first Re-volt pieces were a rather accidental – and at the same time inevitable – spin-off of an interior project the Rotor team was working on. As it turned out, it seemed to be quite challenging to find a suitable piece for the project, and so they decided to venture off and develop it themselves. Of course, it was inevitable that somewhere along the way they would fold for the attractive marriage of their two passions: design and lighting.

The result is Re-volt, the newest member in the Rotor-family, which purposefully resists the instant, disposable culture that seems to also have entered the world of design. Instead the brand chooses to create lighting that endures, both in terms of quality and design. For instance, every part of the armature can be replaced, which prevents it from being cast off at the first defect. Moreover, all parts are locally produced and assembled at the Rotor offices. Mission Statement: We treasure cycles more than lines. Poetry more than prose. Authenticity more than pose.
