JAZZ is an off-beat take on the typology of the dining chair. A concentric construction principle sets the stage for a play between formality and freedom. Each of the chair legs assumes its own stance, depending on position and function – straight up to hold a backrest or breaking out at an angle as a front leg. And while the fine plywood backrest follows a gentle curve, the proportions of the solid wood, central cross-frame appear almost over-dimensioned. A wide seat provides enough freedom of movement for a variety sitting positions. However, the most striking characteristic is the formal difference between the two available models. The standard model has a common leg position, however the model with armrests uses an identical frame which has been rotated through 45 degrees. The single leg directed towards the front lends the JAZZ armchair its iconic silhouette.

The construction both JAZZ versions are based upon is intended to minimize the number of basic elements in the blueprint to ease production processes and optimize stockkeeping of materials. To have a very rational and logic construction principle leading to a unique, distinctive form language in the product might seem ambivalent, but is essentially the beauty of the design.

The material choice to primarily use beechwood has not only an aesthetic intention, but is also a sustainability factor. Beechwood has great properties for furniture construction, is faster growing than oak and even more widespread in Germany. As we are manufacturing with regional partners in Germany only, that material choice improves the economical balance of the product besides introducing the aesthetic quality of a more dense but lighter natural color compared to oak.
