Dongpeng cooperated with Bentu, a brand deeply committed to sustainable materials and design practices, and developed the special collection of “Act Upon Locality”. Starting from the concept of “locality”, this collection is produced out of raw materials like mine tailings, fly ash and other solid industrial wastes. With the industrial technology innovation and the life cycle management for the reuse of residual products and product, “Act Upon Locality” is perfectly aligned with national and international requirements for sustainable green development in material industry.

The project is centered on Dongpeng's Jiangxi Hukou Green Tech Materials Production Base. Within a radius of 100 kilometers, field research and excavation of various raw materials and building material products were conducted in Jingdezhen, Poyang Lake and Jiujiang, etc. The collection takes inspiration from nature and industrial spirit, transforming the industrial solid waste into aesthetic and practical building materials. And it is fair to say, this collection is a systematic representation of sustainable industry in local practice and application.

PROCESS, TECHNOLOGY & DESIGN:
Jiujiang Steel Plant, located 11 km away from Dongpeng Hukou Green Tech Production Base, is one of the major solid waste sources targeted by the "Act Upon Locality" project. The steel slag from Jiujiang Steel Plant has been extensively studied at the beginning of the R&D process. The slag, processed by water quenching granulation, drying and grinding, can be transformed into a safe and high-quality ultra-fine powder material. Mixed with red sandstone from Pengze County, 20 km away from Hukou base, eco-stone slabs are produced by non-burn vacuum negative pressure solidification technology, which consumes much less energy and emits much less carbon than the traditional burning process.
