Gensler collaborated with Spacestor as a Product Design Consultant to develop Arcadia, a new furniture range and interior toolkit for workspaces. Inspired by timeless classical architectural forms, Arcadia offers a versatile kit-of-parts that is fluid, flexible, and future-proof. The concept revolves around five classic geometric building blocks that are engineered for inter-compatibility. This allows for the creation of various space-makers, such as Colonnades and Pantheons, without the need for constructing walls. The patent-pending quick-release joining system and pure geometric shapes enable shapes to be reused and reconfigured multiple times, fostering longevity and adaptability.
Arcadia is manufactured using a durable upholstery textile. The material retains its colour effectively under light exposure and exceeds durability tests. Additionally, it is certified for low chemical emissions and carries the EU Ecolabel certification. Made from 100% renewable wool, it offers comfort, humidity absorption/generation, flame retardancy, biodegradability, natural soil resistance, and timeless aging.
The kit form of Arcadia allows for maximum flexibility, enabling designers to create a wide range of settings and typologies in the workplace. The international design team at Gensler, working closely with Spacestor, has incorporated design insights from their London, Paris and US studios, resulting in a universally appealing design language.
Arcadia recognises the need for stimulating, refreshing, and adaptable space settings in an ever-changing world. It aligns with Spacestor's philosophy of flexibility and sustainability, addressing the demand for softer, organic shapes in the workplace.
Arcadia's unique feature is its ability to create secondary and tertiary spaces simultaneously, defining zones within larger areas. It introduces a new design language inspired by classic architecture, offering softer forms, earthy tones, and a micro-architecture toolkit for designers. With typologies like arches, cloisters, colonnades, rotundas, porticos, and pantheons, workspace designers can now explore a whole system of micro-architecture that is distinctive yet not prescriptive.
The colour palette of Arcadia includes shades reminiscent of limestone, granite, brick, and natural colours like green associated with classical landscape architecture. The material's smooth and consistent surface complements the organic shapes of the furniture, while the blended colour tones offer nuanced variations upon closer examination.
Arcadia brings a completely new toolkit to the workplace, allowing instant creation and landscaping of spaces that is unparalleled in the market. Its fluid and flexible nature enables it to adapt to changing demands while maintaining a timeless and classic appeal.
