Founded in Japan in 1988, Jins is a leader in crafting stylish, high-quality and innovative eyewear at affordable prices. Jins operates over 430 retail stores in Japan, China and Taiwan and opened its first US store in San Francisco in April 2015. The San Francisco Jins flagship store features KANNA, the lens-edging robot, allowing customers to receive their glasses with custom prescription lenses within 30 minutes as opposed to weeks. Operating with the underlying principle of ‘offering eyewear that will enhance the way people see the world’, Jins creates stores that offer visitors another perspective on what they normally see. Jins has both central convenience-style stores close to train stations, and innovative, exploratory retail spaces designed by external architects to make eyewear shopping more unique and memorable. Avoiding the use of precious materials in its stores, the brand collaborates with designers who can apply their creative ingenuity to industrialized materials. Jins sees the store of the future as a communal space, not only a retail shop. In the works are open-plan spaces where local designers and architects can facilitate workshops for children. Road-side stores will thus be embedded into communities rather than situated in shopping centres.
