Key features

For Hellomonday’s latest co-working location in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, the brand collaborated with design Studio Bananafish to create an agile workspace. Located in a former industrial area, the co-working space occupies the 9th-11th floors of a high-rise overlooking the Han River and Seoul Forest Park. The bottom floor hosts a reception desk, café and lounge. Benches made of natural grey stone upholstered with tactile grey fabric provide seating for enjoying a coffee or socializing. A conference room and individual workplaces are found at the end of the long bar. A staircase leads to the two upper floors where the main workspaces and kitchens, where social and working lunches can be held, are found.

The top floor of the co-working space can function as a dining room, lecture hall, gymnasium, conference room or events space. It's encompassed by a greenhouse-style structure with a pitched glass roof and an adjacent rooftop garden. Furniture units, including a table and two chairs, are the building blocks for the space and can be rearranged – or removed – to make different configurations of the room to accommodate different modes of working. Translucent shelves, which are also removable, refract ever-changing colours on the walls and furniture adding a playful element to the space. The surrounding space makes use of a concrete-inspired ceramic finish and white-toned furniture.

FRAME’s take

‘The agility of co-working spaces itself is constantly evolving,’ Pauline Roussel and Dimitar Inchev previously wrote. ‘The pandemic has not only led companies to become more flexible but has also forced co-working operators to adapt to an increasingly diverse range of workers. As new customers come in, they bring with them new demands that must be met.’ This agile mindset not only allows occupants to change the space themselves but makes it easier for co-working operators to fit out their spaces to meet new demands without having to completely overhaul them. The Seongsu-dong outpost of Hellomonday furthers the agile work movement by equipping its members with the resources to make spaces that meet the task at hand. The ability to adapt in a work landscape characterized by rapid change makes the co-working operator able to anticipate and respond to the ever-changing work realm.
