Why this brand's high-performance laminate is a top design asset

The range of high-pressure laminate (HPL) products offered by Unilin Panels allows the company to accommodate a great diversity of interior projects.

When it comes to durable surfacing, high-pressure laminate is one of the best materials you can work with. Its manufacture process makes it super resistant to scratches, wear and impact, not to mention heat-resistant and electrically insulating. That process is one the surfacing specialists at Unilin Panels have mastered. The Belgian company provides top-quality wood-based HPL and melamine panelling.

Compressed layers of paper make up the HPL boards, with wood and stone structures embedded deep within them. The designers explain that this gives the surfaces a natural, lifelike feel. ‘As we do everything in house, we can get the most out of this product both technically and aesthetically,’ explains Unilin Panels’ HPL project manager Johnny Maris. 195 designs and textures comprise Unilin’s comprehensive HPL line.

The technical properties of the material make it ideal for many applications, including wall coverings, furniture, worktops and doors. From next year, the brand will make its anti-viral, anti-bacterial surface the standard. Unilin’s Master Oak series is particularly exemplar of HPL’s potential. Characterized by unique patterns and a matte finish, the collection emulates the look and feel of genuine oak, with the superior performance attributes of HPL.

To truly meet the needs of individual spaces, Unilin has made its HPL panels available with various base plates, like MDF and chipboard. Designers can achieve perfect colour matching with melamine panelling and edge strips, and select versions that hone in on specific qualities – moisture-resistant, fire-retardant and formaldehyde-free, for instance. ‘The addition of HPL means that Unilin Panels is a veritable one-stop shop for interior projects in a wide range of environments,’ notes Maris.
