Seaside Chinese hospitality destination The Tree & Villa Erhai Lake came out on top as FRAME Awards 2022’s Hotel of the Year. The Fusion Design Shenzhen project rejuvenates visitors by offering a connection between interior and nature.  

Located in Shuanglang – a small town in the Yunnan province – the four-room resort iterates upon an existing structure. Fusion Design Shenzhen renovated the original building’s entire façade and maximized the use of space indoors by breaking down boundaries. The latter also serves to increase interaction, both between visitors and the guest and nature. White is the primary colour throughout the project – the designers opted for snowy shades to reflect its symbolism as believed by the local Bai community. Wood and the use of grey further the neutral, fresh ambience of the hotel. Providing a sense of domesticity and emphasizing the privileged seaside site was integral to the work, which was acknowledged by our grand jury for its sustainable execution, ‘smart refurbishment’ and merging with nature.
