Theatrum Orbis Terrarum by Michael Hirschbichler

BOOKMARK ARTICLE

Zürich-based Michael Hirschbichler works at the nexus of art and architecture. Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, his latest exhibition, reflects how his vision of architectural situations and structures which are determined by urban planning regulations. Hirschbichler considers plans, photo collages and models to be tools of a speculative-critical archeology, where different levels of engagement with reality may be encouraged. Using these media he studies, manipulates and assembles dystopic spaces that are exaggerated through repetition and contrasts in scaling.

Occupying the space between everyday functional spaces and the excessive sculptural style of grand, representational buildings, his works come together to create a architectural phantasmagoria that will fascinate viewers and bring about a greater intensity of viewing.

Theatrum Orbis Terrarum will run until 26 July.
