Kitchens are often considered the heart of the home, where we congregate to cook, eat and connect. From miniature ovens to geometric tiling, the following studios are thinking of how we can take this familiar realm to the next level. Balancing playfulness with practicality, here are five concepts inserting new energy into the kitchen – whether through splashes of colour, multi-functional appliances or unexpected forms.

Baboon

Baboon 

Guided by the motto, ‘No more boring kitchens’, Baboon offers sustainable, interchangeable kitchen designs with invigorating pops of colour. The Dutch company combines custom countertops and fronts with IKEA or KVIK base cabinets to enable everyone to build their dream kitchen – minus the stress. Recently partnering with modern tile designers, Palet, the studio unlocks endless possibilities for crafting truly bespoke kitchens.

Jardín

Mestiz 

Bursting with colour, Mestiz’ Jardín kitchen brings cooking outdoors, taking inspiration from the flora and fauna of Mexico’s Bajío region. The design marks the studio’s first foray into ironwork, exploring a unique blend of fantasy and local craftsmanship. Functional yet fun, the design will debut in Spring 2025 as part of the studio’s first inhabitable installation.

Wonder Oven 

Our Place 

Small but mighty, Our Place’s new Wonder Oven strikes a balance between efficiency and fun. As a one-stop-shop for multi-use kitchen appliances, Our Place understands what consumers want: no fuss cooking. Offering six functions in one, from toasting to roasting, this oven ticks that box by saving on both time and space for stress-free, clutter-free mealtimes.

Pink Green Room 

Jäll & Tofta 

Designed for the Breakfast For Dinner Studios in Chicago, Jäll & Tofta’s Pink Green Room reflects the company’s vibrancy and creativity. A spin on the green room lounge found in theatres and studios, the design incorporates modern tiling, colour contrasts and geometric forms to foster a playfully fresh canteen for lunch and tea breaks.

Chunky Kitchen

Gustaf Westman

Architect-turned-designer, Gustaf Westman, presents Chunky Kitchen – an organic countertop and cupboard design with rounded edges and bevelled details. Crafted in collaboration with Swedish woodworkers, the kitchen supports local and sustainable production and is available in in pink or blue stained pine.
