What if our products could be reincarnated over and over again? In this month's selection of curated products from Material Bank – an ultra-efficient sampling service with over 40,000 materials from hundreds of brands – we examine recycled and waste-based materials with circularity at their core.
Durat Plus
Durat
Durat creates 100 per cent recyclable solid surfaces from recycled plastic. The heat- and water-resistant surfaces can be used in various spaces – both indoors and outdoors – and have an EPD. Committed to sustainability, the Finnish brand offers repair and buy-back services, and recently introduced Durat Plus – the world’s first commercially available solid surface material combining recycled PET resin and recycled solid surface – which contains up to 80 per cent recycled material. Pictured is the Porta dei Colori range of Durat Plus.
OCEAN
Smile Plastics
Made from 100 per cent recycled and recyclable PET sourced from packaging, Ocean has an EPD and is one of Smile Plastic’ initiatives to keep existing plastic in our economic system and out of the ocean. The brand operates a circular industrial ecosystem, taking back offcuts and end-of-life recycled plastic sheets to rework them into new panels.
B-Chew Trio
Abitex
ABITEX created its B-Chew range of fabrics from recycled and recyclable PET. The first bi-elastic fire-retardant fabric made in Italy, it’s suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. With three different structures – Trio (pictured), Bit and Duo – that can adapt to any shape, B-Chew comes in 53 multifaceted colours.
ECOrange U
Slalom Acoustics
Emphasizing sustainability and circularity, Slalom produces sound-absorbing panels using textiles and plastics from circular and reused sources. The segmented design of its Ecorange U panel – which nods to the structure of an orange – improves acoustic comfort while adding an aesthetic feature to spaces.
Reform Maze
Ege Carpets
Reform Maze– a collection of cut-pile carpet tiles (pictured), carpet planks or wall-to-wall carpet from Ege – features 57 per cent recycled content. The products are composed of regenerated and regenerable yarn and have Ege’s patented Ecotrust felt backing, which is made from recycled plastic bottles. The front and back are bonded together with adhesive derived from recycled broken car windows.
POLYGOOD® Translucent Collection
The Good Plastic Company
Named for its aesthetic and the company’s guiding principle, Polygood Translucent from The Good Plastic Company is a collection of 100 per cent recycled and recyclable plastic panels that are Cradle to Cradle® Bronze-certified with an EPD. The base is made from clear CD cases, while the colourful accents come from industrial tubes, spools, acoustic panels and single-use cutlery. Panels can be returned to the company for remanufacturing, further extending their lifecycle and minimizing waste.
