Since arriving from Japan in the 1980s, karaoke has become a Chinese passion. That enthusiasm is reflected in a jaw-dropping new karaoke club in Shenzen, by Hong Kong-based Horace Tan’s Panorama office.
The spectacular 3600-sq-m venue, located in the new OCT Bay dining and leisure hub, brings together dramatically contrasting Asian and Western motifs to create a sense of energy and excitement. Art – much of it produced by local artists – competes with an abundance of colour, texture and detail, making the entrance lobby and reception areas a dynamic, almost dizzying, experience.
Giant terracotta warriors in a white gloss finish greet visitors on arrival, with bowing orange figures placed seemingly at every corner. Luxurious private rooms are darker in tone and designed to feel homely and cosy for the customers, who Tan characterizes as ‘the elite type of karaoke patron.’
