Most-viewed: these spaces led FRAME Awards submission visits

BOOKMARK ARTICLE

Every week we highlight those submissions which have been frequented by our readers and jury, in the lead-up to the reveal of Interiors of the Month winners and honourable mentions. Here are the five most-viewed projects between 9 and 16 June 2023.

SEPTIEMBRE

Clap Studio

Spanish for September, Septiembre draws inspiration from the month itself and the Aster flowers that bloom during it (Health Club, 6.77). Clap Studio was briefed to create a medical clinic in València, which offers a 'fresh, young and friendly' alternative to traditional healthcare spaces. Wood is used alongside real and sculptural flowers. Shades of blue, yellow and orange complement the neutral tones used throughout. ‘Beautiful palette of humble materials and branded colours – nice additional depth of relaxed soft orange in the treatment,’ says Justine Fox, founder and colour specialist at Studio Justine Fox.

PULO MARKET

Hezi Design

Following the pandemic period characterized by social distancing and separation, Pulo Market was designed to provide people with ‘living spaces with warmth and kindness’ (Co-Living Complex, 7.85; Restaurant, 7.75). Hezi Design designed Pulo Market, which comprises both a residential area and retail space, to facilitate interaction. The space incorporates nature, like with a living green wall above the bar, and uses wood at scale to foster a relaxing yet vibrant space. ‘Well-balanced composition, skilful use of materials and old furniture in a contemporary context,’ notes Maja Bernvill, creative director at Specific Generic. ‘This is a place where people will thrive for a long time.’

LAIZHOU BAR

Roomoo Design Studio

For Chinese whiskey brand Bacchus, Roomoo Design Studio designed an experience-led bar in Shanghai (Bar, 6.38). Comprising a tasting area, VIP room, bar, kitchen and outdoor seating area, the space makes use of 6,000 pieces of discarded whiskey distilling barrels as a way of connecting with the brand's heritage. ‘Cozy bar atmosphere with suiting materials used,’ shares Tugba Okcuouglu, creative concept and customer experience developer at Ingka Centers.

MUSEUM PALEIS HET LOO

KAAN Architecten

A 5,000 sq-m addition was completed at Paleis Het Loo, a baroque hunting palace on the outskirts of Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, adding new facilities and spaces to be used as a museum (Cultural Space, 6.76). KAAN Architecten’s intervention sought to achieve a balance between the historic building and its new addition, making use of materials like walnut wood with carved orange blossom leaf patterns and sandblasted and polished marble. ‘True amalgamation of form, function and practicality immersed within an aesthetic impression and experience for the visitor,’ Sanchit Arora, principal architect at Renesa Studio, comments.

SERPENTINE BOOKHOUSE

Atelier XI

Located along the Dasha River Ecological Corridor in Shenzhen, the Serpentine Bookhouse contains a 300 sq-m children’s reading room and public restroom facilities open to park visitors (Learning Space, 7.46). Atelier XI looked to fishermen folklore and the sea and drew inspiration from the shape of a spiral conch shell. The interior spiral houses stepped reading spaces where children can climb, play and read. The space also hosts art exhibitions and reading clubs for all ages, making it a shared community space.
