Every week we highlight the FRAME Awards submissions that have been frequented most by our readers and jury. Below are the five most-viewed projects between 28 February and 7 March, shared with feedback left by the jury.
Layers · History · Color
Estudio Vilablanch
Located in a modernist building in the heart of the Quadrat d'Or neighborhood in Barcelona, Layers · History · Color is a 650-sq-m apartment designed by Estudio Vilablanch (Large Apartment, Colour). Balancing the space’s modernist roots with the neoclassical elements that have been added through time, the designer sought to showcase the home’s history. Instead of demolishing the unoriginal elements, the designer opted to reuse them. Estudio Vilablanch used colour ‘ribbons’ to demarcate the different architectural eras of the home; neoclassical elements are indicated with a blue and green colour palette while modernist elements were painted white.

A Pavilion for Swell of Spæcies
Una/Unless
Designed by Una/Unless, a Pavilion for Swell of Spæcies marks Accademia di Belle Arti’s first participation in the Venice Biennale circuit (Exhibition). The temporary space was designed to host LAS Art Foundation’s commission of artist Josèfa Ntjam and draws design inspiration from the historical context of the renaissance building of the academic institution and Ntjam’s work. The primary blue triangular prism stood in contrast – and complement – of its historical surroundings.

Eggsinn
XiaoOu Office
Eggsinn, meaning ‘rebirth and inclusiveness’, is a fashion brand collective store in Chengdu, China (Multi-Brand Store). XiaoOu Office was inspired by the concept of a journey to encourage exploration and discovery throughout the 233-sq-m store. Segmented into three main interconnected areas, the store’s entry point features an inverted ship while clothing displays are integrated into a canyon-like environment. Organic forms expand the store’s wayfinding possibilities and imbue an autonomous experience for shoppers.

Design Talks Lounge
Gensler
During the Workspace Design Show in London, Gensler designed the The Design Talks Lounge that reflects the idea of the evolving work landscape (Trade-Fair Stand). Designed under the theme ‘Bloom – Exploring the Thriving Ecosystem of Work Life’, the lounge made use of biophilic elements to create a nature-filled moment of respite in the trade-fair environment and hosted 4,500 attendees throughout the fair. All materials used were recycled, repurposed or donated.

Renatus Clinic Nagoya
SESN
For the design Renatus Clinic Nagoya, a beauty space in Nagoya, Japan, SESN sought to create a sensory-driven environment (Single-Brand Store). A gentle beige hue unifies the clinic’s separate spaces, that are augmented through a delicate balance of natural and artificial lighting. Gentle splashes of colour characterize the space, from the slightly pink natural stone reception counter to orange and mauve coloured curtains and soft orange-tinted lighting.
