Miega Salon by BANG by MIN

BOOKMARK ARTICLE

A hair salon in Seoul is designed as a series of small villages, congregated in a 124-sq-m space.

Divided by a series of alleyways, the Miega salon features small module-like rooms which each contain different materials for various services. It’s arranged like a property with a house, yard, shed and garden – though in this case, modular black ‘houses’ contain areas for cutting, washing, relaxing or styling. Despite the spatial divisions the overall space works together as a whole, which the designers say was their goal.

‘We wanted to return to the idea of a hair salon as a room for neighbours [to meet] and as place for cultural and public community,’ says designer Sae Min Oh of BANG by MIN.

Each house-like unit has a different roofline, creating a unique silhouette. The space can serve purposes aside from styling hair – it can also be used as a gallery, exhibition space, café or party location, pending the owner’s wishes.
